RISE-UP students develop research on alternatives for a public school in Yauco, PR damaged by the 2020 earthquakes

As part of the 2020 RISE-UP summer undergraduate research experience course,
students Juan Hernández, Nildalice Berríos, Henry López and Dem Santiago
highlighted the seismic vulnerability of the deteriorated and aging schools in Puerto
Rico. The students with their mentor, Dr. Luis Daza, developed a case study of the
Elvira Vicente Middle School in Yauco, PR. The rehabilitation alternative was designed
to enhance the seismic performance of the school while implementing a functional and
aesthetically pleasant façade.
