Abstract
African influence in Puerto Rico, its many forms and expressions tend to become invisible; this
is the case of religious syncretism in our Afro-Puerto Rican culture. This study investigates the existence and materialization of religious syncretism in architectural space. Its focus is spiritualism, its variations, and the relationship with the spaces where its rites are practiced. It was addressed through qualitative analysis, using observation and interviews with practitioners. In this way its invisible spaces were gradually revealed. The most obvious findings are the generation of atmospheres, in which there is a multiplicity of configurations of symbols and elements in space, which vary depending on the user and the case of spiritualism. This allows the complementation and strengthening of the religious syncretic process. After the findings, an architectural project was realized that considered this synchronistic heritage and its consequences in space.

Resumen
La influencia africana en Puerto Rico, sus múltiples formas y expresiones, se tienden a
invisibilizar; este es el caso del sincretismo religioso en nuestra cultura afropuertorriqueña. Este estudio investiga la existencia y materialización del sincretismo religioso en el espacio arquitectónico. Su enfoque es el espiritismo, sus variaciones y la relación con los espacios donde se practican sus ritos. Se abordó mediante análisis cualitativo, utilizando la observación y las entrevistas a los practicantes. De esta manera se fue revelando gradualmente sus espacios invisibles. Los hallazgos más evidentes son la generación de atmósferas, en ellas se manifiesta una multiplicidad de configuraciones de símbolos y elementos en el espacio, los cuales varían dependiendo del usuario y el caso de espiritismo. Esto permite la complementación y fortalecimiento del proceso sincrético religioso. Luego de los hallazgos se materializó un proyecto arquitectónico que tomó en cuenta esta herencia sincrética y sus consecuencias en el espacio.
